Will SearchMonkey really help ranking performance?

Internet giant Yahoo has published a new search result enhancement tool for websites keen to boost their search rankings, it has been revealed.

The Yahoo SearchMonkey functions as a plug-in and is designed to give an additional boost to search engine optimisation (SEO) by allowing web designers to choose information they want to be seen by users in results.

Yahoo’s Jeffrey Revoy told Web User: “SearchMonkey benefits both website owners and users by serving enhanced listings which enable everyone to receive better and more relevant search results first time.”

Some commentators have even suggested that the SearchMonkey tool could change the way that users phrase their searches, safe in the knowledge that they will be able to get more accurate hits.

This only applies to Yahoo’s search engine of course, so Google, Microsoft and other search portals are likely to function as they did before.

For businesses keen on boosting their online marketing, a key issue is no doubt whether using this tool will actually increase hits, which in turn depends on how many users source their site through Yahoo.

I’d be keen to hear from anyone that has tested this new technology.
